Some bikes look right. The design follows the intended function. The beauty of the object is as much in the possibility or residual energy of its purpose as it is in aesthetic refinement. This Condor was the time trial bike of the late 1960s and early 1970s. It features the stunning drillium of various Campagnolo components originally pioneered to the n’th degree by Alf Engers in the 1970s but cried out by numerous keen cyclists up and down the UK. To list all of the bicycles fascinating details, would need a substantially longer time than I have here, but I will attempt it! The frame is if course Reynolds 531 build using Zeus dropouts and constructed using a filet brazed method in order to minimise weight. The angles are sharp and aggressive, but the finishing details, such as the cleanliness of the nut behind the seat lug bolt or the precision around the fork crown are nothing short of delicious. Paint is pretty much immaculate save for the odd mark and the lovely Condor head badge and decals have held up enormously well. The components used are excellent pieces of engineering from the Italian firms, Campagnolo, 3ttt Regina and Cinelli as well as French offerings from Super Champion and Christophe. Where possible weight has been saved through extensive drilling of the seatpost, brake levers, rear derailleur and downtube shifter. The ends of the Campagnolo pedals have been shaved off and the quick release hooks removed. Even the Milremo bar plug screws have been removed! As you would expect, it’s an extremely fast and responsive ride and one that demands wholehearted concentration and a big breakfast, but it really shifts along. If you are looking for a period time trial machine, look no further! Seat Tube (C to T). Top Tube (C to C). 5 10″ – 6 2″. Campagnolo Record Strada 170mm. Campagnolo Nuovo Record Drilled Pat.
