These wheels were built by me in the late 1980’s. I was getting into racing, but after child #2 arrived, I had to tone it down. Both wheels did have a tire mounted at one point, but were only lightly used. Light coating of glue remains. Rear wheel is Mavic Gel 280 rim, Campagnolo Record low flange hub, Performance bladed spokes with black alloy nipples. 36 spokes in cross 3 pattern. English threads for the freewheel. Rear hub is perfect. Spin wheel with eyes closed, you feel nothing, cannot tell if wheel is turning. Weight without skewers is 750 grams. Front wheel is Fiamme Ergal rim, Campagnolo Record low flange hub, and Alpina double-butted spokes. The front hub is not quite flawless, it has just a tiny bit of roughness to it, but I’m being quite fussy here. I’m figuring it may just need to be cleaned and re-greased but I didn’t take it apart to check for any kind of brinelling so I can’t guarantee perfect bearings, cones, and races. Weight without skewers 670 grams. The rims are very lightweight and so would not be appropriate if the rider is in the “Clydesdale” category. My records show that the Mavic rim weighed in at 290 grams. The Fiamme Ergal rims are 280 grams. I remember at the time being very impressed with these low weights! With a lot of elbow grease, the Fiamme rim can be brought back to original shine. A photo shows one section that I worked on with metal polish. Now on to the truing stand. Both wheels are reasonably true and round. Video shows the Mavic wheel first, showing roundness and trueness separately. Followed by the Fiamme front wheel, you can see round & true together. I tried a spoke wrench on a few nipples, they are easily adjustable, nothing frozen or hard to turn. Skewers are Campagnolo Record with the comfortable curved levers, work fine, some scratches.
