Stunning 1986 Eddy Merckx Corsa Extra. No expense spared restoration of an Early version Eddy Merckx Corsa Extra road bike from 1986. This frame is quite rare as it uses Columbus SLX tubing with the very unusual fastback seatstays. The frame size is 55cm. The frame has been professionally restored but remains identical to the original colour and decals. The colour is a beautiful Pearl White and the decals were carefully recreated using the originals as a reference. This bike has been rebuilt in line with all regulations to enter L’Eroica so if you are looking to enter this event in the near future, this bike would be perfect for you. In the 1980s this was a top of the range bicycle and considered by some to be one of the best bicycles of the day. As a result, it was used by many professional race teams through the 1980s and into the 1990s. This serial number of this bike is Y5X-4695-A. This bike comes with a. Full Campagnolo Super Record groupset, most parts are NOS (New Old Stock), parts that aren’t new are in absolutely Mint condition. The crankset is the more desirable early fluted version. The wheels are professionally built using all NOS components including Mavic GP4 Tubulars with S. Chwalbe/Swallow tyres, Super Record hubs and period correct Alpina spokes. The saddle is the famous Selle Italia Turbo which is also NOS and even still has the manufactures seal still attached. The handlebars are Cinelli. 64-42 with a Cinelli A1 stem. The bars are covered in white leather that has been hand stitched. Every detail of this bicycle has been carefully selected, even including original 1980s Casiraghi. A lot of work has gone into sourcing NOS and Mint components, restoring the frame, building the wheels and professionally rebuilding this top of the range bicycle with the top of the range, and authentic components to the state it is now presented.
